Six Resources to Brighten Any Teacher's Summer
As another school year inches closer to an end, summer is just around the corner. For some teachers, that means teaching summer classes or participating in professional development training. For others, it might mean enjoying an all-too-brief respite before the fall semester comes rushing back. No matter how you spend the coming months, it can be hard to relax and enjoy the summer, knowing how much planning and work it’ll take to prepare when the new school year starts.
That’s why our team is here to give you a little extra peace of mind, with a handful of resources to help you enjoy the summer and feel confident about kicking off the new semester on the right foot. All of these can be accessed in the Resource Center.
1) Get help from thousands of teachers on selecting new digital teaching and learning tools.
While we don’t offer a resource that can help with grading your quizzes, homework or science projects, LearnPlatform does offer insights, feedback and grades on more than 5,000 edtech products, from more than 100,000 verified educators, that will save you hours (if not days) of researching, analyzing and selecting your classroom technology.
LearnPlatform provides feedback on edtech tools, using a simple, research-backed, comprehensive grading rubric, designed in conjunction with verified educators, to provide practical insights on how programs rank on a scale of one to 10 for their ease of use, overall features, alignment to learning standards and more. This way, there’s less guesswork for you when it comes to deciding which edtech products your students should be using.
2) Go ahead, make it a Venti — you deserve it.
If you’ve got some free time this summer, perhaps while you’re lying on a hammock somewhere enjoying an ice-cold drink, why not take a few minutes to earn some free rewards? Teachers who grade edtech products and share their feedback in the LearnPlatform product library receive points redeemable for gift cards to places like Starbucks, Target and Amazon. It’s quick, it’s simple and it’s a great way to share valuable feedback with your fellow educators. Sign up here.
3) John Hughes? Spielberg? We’ve got something even better.
Feeling like relaxing with a good movie marathon this summer? Why not pick something that offers practical, high-quality tips you can take back to school with you this fall that make it easier to manage and evaluate your ever-changing collection of classroom technology.
The LearnPlatform Video Library is a collection of quick informational videos that help teachers understand different aspects of their LearnPlatform accounts, from evaluating tools to sharing reviews or searching for products and managing their approved product libraries. You’ll be a pro from day one.
4) Lay back with a good book, or maybe a piece of the latest research.
Staying in-the-know this summer on some edtech trends, approaches and new tools is a great way to give yourself a head start for the fall semester and ensure you provide your teams and students access to the best learning options available. Working with schools and districts across the country, we are in the unique position to aggregate and provide research on the latest edtech usage trends and some of the catalysts that are leading to increased utilization.
The 2017 EdTech Usage Trends Report contains the latest findings. If you’re curious to see which programs are leading the pack and being accessed most, you can also check out the latest EdTech Top 40 List. Both are free and can provide some interesting information and indications of what’s working in other organizations, putting you ahead of the curve heading back to school.
5) Like, share and receive notifications (without using social media).
If you’re unsure about the effectiveness of your current instructional technology, take steps to get some additional insight with our free LearnPlatform Chrome Extensions. These easy-to-install extensions can be added right to your browser to help you learn more about the edtech you’re using and allow you share feedback with educators. When you visit any learning technology website, the extension will light up and activate in the browser to show you grades and insights on the product. You can also connect with your professional learning network(s) to ask questions about those products, save them to your library and access other key features of your LearnPlatform account. If you don’t have a LearnPlatform account, you can sign up for one here.
6) Before you start back-to-school shopping for new supplies, find something that will really help you succeed in the coming school year.
If you’re not familiar with LearnPlatform, it has helped thousands of educators find, purchase, organize, implement, manage and evaluate their instructional technology. But don’t just take our word for it — take a look at our collection of case studies. These studies provide insights into actual challenges faced by schools and districts across the country, with insights on why they chose LearnPlatform, how they use the system to organize and measure products, what their implementation process was like and the results they achieved for their organizations. It’s a great resource to help you step out of the day-to-day and think about getting organized and improving as the summer comes to an end.
