If it seems like every few months we’re introducing you to a handful of new team members, well, that’s because we are. As LearnPlatform continues to grow and reach new districts across the country, so does our diverse team of passionate educators, researchers and technologists. This “charming” group of individuals (as we’ve been called) is helping to drive the mission of expanding equitable access for all students to the best edtech around. So, what can we say? We enjoy bragging on them a little bit. Here are a few of the newer faces around the LearnPlatform office.

Corey Waters, Controller

Intro song: Genius - LSD

Job Profile: As Controller, Corey is responsible for all things finance — from daily accounting tasks to financial modeling. Much like LearnPlatform’s purpose, her job is to generate actionable insights that guide informed decision-making across the company (and to make sure everyone’s paycheck arrives on time, of course).

Q: What is your favorite thing about working at LearnPlatform?

A: The company is in a really exciting stage of growth right now and it’s so fun to watch our expanding team of mission-driven employees continue to grow LearnPlatform’s customer base and the product’s capabilities.

Q: What is the coolest thing customers can do with LearnPlatform?

A: Being a finance person, I know how important (and tricky) maximizing budgets can be. I love that LearnPlatform helps schools and districts put education funds toward the tools that are most impactful for their teachers and students.

Q: What is your first or favorite piece of education technology?

A: When I was in school, it was all chalkboards and projectors. But as a parent, I’m gradually being introduced to lots of exciting new edtech apps. I found Class Dojo helpful for teacher-parent communication when my daughter was in elementary school. Now that she’s in middle school, Remind has been a useful tool for keeping me in the loop on class assignments and activities.

Favorite Getaway: Charleston, SC

Favorite Holiday: It’s a tie between Halloween and Christmas.

Favorite Food: Beef

Favorite Quote: “I immediately regret this decision." - Ron Burgundy (Anchorman)

Ethan Kratt, Sales and Marketing Support Intern

Intro song: Hey Ya! - Outkast

Job Profile: As the Sales and Marketing Support Intern, Ethan helps our team of district analysts move sales through the pipeline efficiently and assists the marketing team by producing content, qualifying leads and supporting nurture campaigns. In addition to working at LearnPlatform, he’s also a full-time business student at North Carolina State University.

Q: What is your favorite thing about working at LearnPlatform?

A: I have loved the experience of working at a passionate and mission-driven company where everyone around me cares deeply about what they do and who they’re doing it for. As a benefit corporation, I enjoy knowing that coming to work not only benefits the students we’re helping, but also makes a positive impact on many of the environmental and social issues in our modern world. It’s a special feeling to know that your work will directly impact children’s educational experiences and help provide equitable learning opportunities, all while keeping our responsibility to our community at the forefront of our minds.

Q: What is the coolest thing customers can do with LearnPlatform?

A: I definitely think the coolest thing anyone can do with LearnPlatform is to implement our Chrome Extension on their district or school computers. By tracking all the edtech resources your students and educators are using across the entire district, it allows you to see how often your organization-approved apps are being utilized and if your teachers are relying on edtech you were unaware of. It doesn’t hurt that it’s completely free!

Q: What is your first or favorite piece of education technology?

A: I have always been a big fan of Kahoot!. There’s nothing more satisfying than securing that #1 spot in front of a class full of your peers.

Favorite Getaway: London, England

Favorite Holiday: Thanksgiving

Favorite School Subject: Social Studies

Favorite Food: Pizza (or those little Valentine’s Day candy hearts that everyone else hates)

Favorite Quote: “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. - Wayne Gretzky” - Michael Scott (The Office)

Anna Huang, Data Analyst

Intro song: The Doctor Who Intro Theme

Job Profile: Anna is a Data Analyst for the research and analytics team at LearnPlatform. She drives insight through both qualitative and quantitative data from clients and the platform, and she provides analytical and technical support to help others understand the effectiveness of education technology.

Q: What is your favorite thing about working at LearnPlatform?

A: The people! Everyone is an expert in their area and is very committed to the field of education. There is so much to learn from everyone on a daily basis. We are success driven and help others to succeed, but most importantly we have empathy for each other and for the people we serve. The people at LearnPlatform create a really strong team feeling, which makes our work and mission well supported.

Q: What is the coolest thing customers can do with LearnPlatform?

A: IMPACT! You can feed in any sort of educational dataset, and the feature will provide you with effectiveness analysis overall and by whatever subgroup you want. It is well validated in both research and education. A user doesn’t have to have statistical knowledge to understand the analysis either, and it’s comparable between products. I have not seen any analytical feature for education that’s better, and it pushes educators to personalize the learning experience.

Q: What is your first or favorite piece of education technology?

A: I am a huge open source fan and I love Coursera. Imagine having the best education for any subject you can think of, and for free! I have taken all sorts of classes: music, photography, biology (I was just curious) and finance. I was taught how to program in school, but about half of my knowledge came from Coursera. It is still the first platform I think of when I think about online education for everyone.

Josh Sparrow, Marketing Communications Specialist

Intro song: Don’t Stop Me Now - Queen

Job Profile: As a Marketing Communications Content Specialist, Josh is responsible for informing K-12 educators and administrators of the latest insights, innovations, trends and best practices in the world of edtech and edtech management, through blogs, social media, case studies, etc.

Q: What is your favorite thing about working at LearnPlatform?

A: Aside from the team I get to work with (who are all incredibly supportive and really passionate about the work we do), my favorite thing about working at LearnPlatform is getting to play a small part in promoting equality and fair access for all students to the types of technology that help them succeed in school, and beyond. Teaching was a path I once considered, and though I never found myself in a classroom, I love working for a company whose work lets me make even a small difference on the lives of students.

Q: What is the coolest thing customers can do with LearnPlatform?

A: I’m sure others will say this too, but I think the IMPACT Analyses are by far the coolest thing customers can do. I’ve delved into some actual IMPACT reports, and the level of detail users can glean from them is amazing. Districts can segment their data to find out if a particular product works especially well for any demographic of students, based on ethnicity groups, genders, grade level, things like that. It’s very cool and seems really beneficial for school districts.

Q: What is your first or favorite piece of education technology?

A: As a writer, tools like Google Docs and Evernote make it incredibly easy to create, share and edit new ideas. WordHippo is also a lifesaver for helping me find words that are just on the tip of my tongue, but I can’t spit out. On a more fun note, the first piece of edtech I have a strong recollection of using was a computer game I played in elementary school called DinoPark Tycoon (I wonder if it’s still around). It gave you a small amount of money to purchase dinosaurs and feature in your theme park. You could then buy other attractions, food, rides, etc. to help build your park up even more. That game taught me a quite a bit about math and even some basic management and finance skills at a young age. Though mostly, I think I just learned a lot about dinosaurs.

Favorite Holiday: Christmas

Favorite School Subject: English/Language Arts

Favorite Food: Chinese takeout
